On this episode of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast, Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 8, 1992, for a week of USWA television that proves exactly what BT has been saying all along: Saturday morning Memphis Wrestling is basically one long commercial designed to get your ass into the Mid-South Coliseum on Monday night. And this week, they brought it! The war with The Moondogs and Richard Lee keeps getting bigger, Austin Idol is back in the mix, Koko B. Ware and Kamala are fighting over the Unified World Championship, Eric Embry and Dirty White Boy Tony Anthony have turned their feud into complete chaos, and Dr. Tom Prichard walks away with the Southern Heavyweight Championship, although apparently nobody could find an actual belt for him to hold up afterward. The big news is Richard Lee has decided two Moondogs aren’t enough. With his arm injured and Lawler and Jarrett gaining allies, Lee introduces a brand new member of the pack: Big Black Dog
And yes, that’s the actual name. (unless your Dave Brown, then it’s “Big Bad Dog”)
That finally sets up the obvious question:
Who’s the third man for Lawler and Jarrett?
The answer is Austin Idol, which then begs the obvious question, will Idol show up two weeks in a row?
By the end, Gene, Josh, and BT agree this is a strong week of television.
The Moondog feud is still wild.
Embry and Dirty White Boy are getting better every week.
Dr. Tom finally gets a real championship victory despite having no belt to prove it.
Koko wants Kamala.
Austin Idol is back….again….maybe.
And believe it or not….Big Black Dog just pinned Jerry Lawler.
